Starting a consultation

Each PsychNow provider has a personal invitation link on their Settings page. Patients request a consultation by clicking on your custom invitation link. The link can be:

  • Emailed or texted directly to patients 

  • Attached to a button on your personal website 

  • Shared as a QR code 

After clicking the invitation link, patients are prompted to create a PsychNow account and begin the screening. 

New consultation requests appear in your Consultations tab. The status of the consultation will be updated as you and the patient go through the process.

Once the screening is submitted, click on the consultation link to view the screening results. From the consultation view, you can see the AI “Preview” as well as the patient raw responses.

If you click “Proceed to intake”, you are prompted to select your consultation fee. 
If you have not set up your Stripe keys in your provider settings, then this fee must remain at $0. If you have set up your Stripe keys, then you can choose to charge your default fee or a custom fee. 
Note: If you select $0 for the fee, patients will not see a paywall at all and can advance directly to the full intake. If you select a non-zero fee, the patient will encounter a paywall before the intake begins, where they can pay the fee via credit card.

Once the patient finishes their intake, they are prompted to schedule a live meeting with you. The patient is given the appointment scheduling options you provided in your account settings. After the patient schedules the meeting, they will click a button to mark this task as complete. This action moves their status to “Appointment scheduled”: 

Note: The PsychNow platform is not connected to any scheduling system, so this status only reflects that the patient clicked the “Mark as done” button on the scheduling screen. We cannot verify that the patient has actually made the appointment.

After meeting with the patient, you return to PsychNow to complete the consultation. The first step is to fill out the Assessment & Plan (the 3rd tab on the consultation page):

  • The mental status exam 
  • Your observations and diagnostic considerations 
  • Your treatment plan 
After completing the Assessment and Plan, you click “Complete and sign consultation”. Once you complete the Assessment and Plan you cannot make further edits. This “completes” the consultation.
